Anyone got any good tips on how to unsieze a windshield regulator? I have tried PB Blaster, evapo-rust, and now have it soaking in 50/50 mix of ATF and acetone. Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks,
Bobby

The crank handle shaft is a worm gear that drives the sprocket that moves the tape. Have you tried turning the crank handle while trying to turn the sprocket. You might be able to clamp some soft wood on the sprocket to give you leverage.

Can you remove the Crank mechanism from the Dash? ( Should be pretty easy...just two Screws if memory serve ).

Best to clean and free-up and Lube and so on, on a Bench Top.

Yeah, it's out of the truck. I will try what GW is suggesting to see if I can get it to budge.

Thanks

They can be dis-assembled. Just be careful, most components are zinc die cast and easy to break. There is a tech tip on these. Check it out. Good luck.

Some very light 'taps' on the Crank End...tapping in it's long axis...might free it up now that it has had the ATF/Acetone soak.

Maybe run a small Bolt or Screw in all the way, to tap on that instead of the Shaft 'end' itself.

I have not seen one of these in a long time, but, if you can tap the opposite end, of course, alternate the light taps then.

You could also try warming it, say, 300 degrees, in an Oven...then let cool...then try working it back and forth and see if frees up then.

Can you post a link to some various views of it?

My 1946 Truck had one of course, but, last time I serviced the Crank Mechanism was 1976 and I am just not remembering it's engineering clearly.

There are several companies that offer to rebuild them. Given how fragile the casting is and how rare/expensive a replacement is I'd send it out. Just my 2 cents ohwell
