Melt a small spot and wipe it off. You can grind it but lead is soft enough to plug most abrasive wheels.

Back in the 1950's body men considered anyone who used more than 1/16" of lead to be amateurs- - - -not good enough to metal-finish a panel without using filler. Then Bondo came along, and good body work became a lost art. Jerry

I know paint rust and oil can cause some serious splatter, never dealt with lead. A good scuff job with 40 grit sandpaper will remove enough of the surface to prevent weld contamination. Jerry
