Just bought a new reproduction grill for the 48. Any tips on how to do it? Are there rivets I have to remove or does it just bolt on? What do I remove to install it?

You can tell I am just starting to look at it, but want to try to install in Sunday if possible. You can tell I am not mechanically inclined.

My truck is listed in the gallery as Mike Doak's truck. I have it painted, higher speed rear end, pertronix ignition, new radiator, disc brakes, converted to 12 volt, and now trying to get a chrome grill on the old girl.

Thanks in advance for your help!!!

Thanks,

Mike Doak

No rivets if you bought the assembled grill. There are a BUNCH of screws holding it in. Probably easier to pull the front wheels and the cover in front of the radiator. Don't take it as gospel but other than some bolts with 1/2" heads holding on the front top cover all the rest take a 7/16 wrench or socket.

If it doesn't slide right in, loosen fender to inner-fender, radiator support-to-fender bolts, and any other nearby bolts that I have forgotten about. This will give you more room to get the grill in. Now, get all of the bolts started. Don't tighten them yet. You will need to line up and tighten the fenders back where they belong for a good fit with the hood first. Use protective tape and go slow to avoid marring your new paint.

Got it done, although there are about 3,000 bolts, screws left over. It is tight I put in as many as I could. Everything is tight and it looks good. It took me ALL DAY!!!

I am getting some door handles, door covers, and will be done for now I hope. Lot more fun to drive them than it is to work on them.

Thanks for your help!

I think one of the unwritten rules of any project is that you have to have parts left over when you're done! grin
