I assume you're talking about a wirefeed welder? If so, save your money until you can afford one made by Lincoln, Hobart, or Miller. You'll be far happier welding with them. And when you do get a wirefeed, do not get the fluxed wire. It makes trashy looking welds.

wait dude. If you've NEVER used a welder, then I highly recommend against using your beautiful project vehicle as a training tool. I suggest you pay a good professional restoration shop to do the work for you. You'll get better results in much less time and you won't have a piece of equipment to sell afterwards.

Some jobs just arent worth tackling yourself.

No way DON"T buy a cheap welder. It will cost you more than a good one. If you don't take it to a shop make shure you get pleny of practice on something besides your nice truck smile Good luck cool

I would go to a local welding supply, tool store, or farm store. If you buy from one of these, especially the welding supply, you should get your questions answered, which you won't get with mail order. And if you haven't welded much, get someone to help you learn, and practice a bunch before you start on your truck! grin

You can get a century mig welder with the tank an wire, ready to go for under 600. Don't let these guys scare you away from working on your own truck, they had to start some where too. Maybe a little practice first. Always research what it is you want to try, and get a few opinions, make a choice you can live with and go for it.
