I just pulled the oil pan on my 216.
A lot of sludge and grime.
Any recommendations on how/what to use to clean? What the process is?
The manual says to check alignment of oil nozzles, so I just don't want to do something stupid that is going to set me back more.

Try and scrape out the worst of it, then wash it up with a degreaser and a parts washing brush. They make a lot of these water based cleaners anymore, never used them myself.

I've been known to sneak into the friendly local coin car wash late at night for such projects and use their engine degreaser option for that kind of stuff. Since you're in Commiefornia, that might be a problem. Once the pan is clean, aiming the spray tubes is simple- - - -scribe an "X" on the side of the oil pan directly across from each nozzle, attach a water hose to the supply tube, and bend the nozzle up, down, or sideways until the stream of water hits the middle of the X. Rinse and repeat for all six nozzles!
