Is it possible to remove the cab over the steering column with the box still in place? Are the rear cab mounts bolted in place from the bottom? This is a 1948 1 ton cab, box and frame. Jerry

Jerry,

I only know from my 4400 frame off, but the cab has to move backwards as well as upwards to clear the steering column (if left in place). The others can confirm, but I doubt you will be able to clear the front of the bed. The steering column is not that hard to remove and it will make removing the cab more feasible. Just do it. Might as well remove the bed, too, if you're going to all this trouble. Just sayin' ... smile

You get to the rear cab mounts from both inside the cab and from underneath. It's fairly straightforward -- especially if you have a helper. But the seat frame/tray will hold a wrench in place while you work from underneath (voice of experience) with a ratchet if you don't have a helper.

Good luck!
John

Did it, Removed the steering column and found the rear cab mount bolts. What a pain, One side came loose fairly easily, The other side gave me Much Grief. The top bolt head rounded of so it spun in the wrench. When the other side was loose, I was able to insert a pry bar in enough so I could sawzal the bolt off. This is on a 1948 1 ton, Different from the truck you describe. But thanks anyway, Cab is ready for it's trip to Illinois and it's new life. Jerry
