| | | | Joined: Jan 2002 Posts: 45 Member | | Member Joined: Jan 2002 Posts: 45 | Got the body and paint done from the shop on my rig...but this owner is so busy my truck would sit out there for days and not be worked on...a whole year so i pulled it out of there after paying him for work uncompleted.
Item 1. finally got a new rear bumper...before it had a bardan bumper which wrappped around the sides of the bed...pretty easy to understand how it bolts on. And a lot more stronger too.
However the body man got me a new chrome after market bumper...and supplied me with the brackets.
And heres the question: the brackets are solid steel and heavy (taiwan stuff). As oppose to other brackets that seem to be stamped out version and lighter. Which are more suitable? Im thinking since the solid heavier bracket which are about 3/8 inch thick should be better as it would be stronger???
Your suggestions appreciated
Starrider | | | | | Joined: Jan 2002 Posts: 45 Member | | Member Joined: Jan 2002 Posts: 45 | Well...i got the rear bumper on with the above mention brackets. Bolting the brackets to the frame require 4 half inch bolts.
There being 4 pieces to this bracket kit...two that are the closest to the center and two that angle out 45 degrees from the frame.
I was able to get two half inch bolts that bolt the center pieces to the frame in. However the two pieces that angle out to the ends of the bumper and connect to the outer side of the frame sharing a frame hole where the inner brackets are bolted...sharing the same bolt...was a problem.
Couldn't get the bolt holes of the brackets and frame to align so that i could slip in that half inch bolt...so for now just went to a smaller bolt. Had to use a smaller bolt on the other side also.
Either the frame of the truck is distorted...or the bolts of the bracket are just 2mm off of something?
Will probably end up leaving it like that or getting a drill and just drilling the hole out to where it will take the standard half inch bolt.
BTW...this is a new aftermarket chrome bumper...the orginal was a barden bumper. I installed the bumper so that the closest edge of the bumper is 1 inch away from the back bed of the truck. Hope that is the right amount of space?
