The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Driveline clutch release fork question

Am replacing a '37 216 with a '61 261 using the 37 bell hsg and '37 transmission to avoid messing with the driveshaft and rear end. The 261 flywheel forces me to update the clutch from the old 3 finger/carbon throwout to the newer diaphragm /throwout bearing arrangement. Got everything to fit EXCEPT I notice the new ('42 - '61) throwout fork is about 1/4" longer between the pivot ball and the fingers than the '37. This means that the fingers contact the throwout bearing 1/4" offset to the right of the vertical centerline of the engine flywheel. I followed Patricks instructions to a "t" and even called him of this concern to which he said there are hundreds of these conversions out there with no problems. I have no reason to doubt this fine gentleman who has done so much for us stovebolters and am wondering if this offset has gone undetected with no detrimental consequences. It is my intention to "give it a go" and was wondering if anyone else has noticed the analomy. Thanks in advance for any responses

It has been discussed her before. The position of the pivot ball is in a slightly different position on a 1937 or earlier bellhousings.
If you can come up with a 1938-46 truck bellhousing I would recommend it.
