Hi all,

Well, I got some pics of the cab corners after it got back from the sand blaster...what should I do - replace or repair?

And there are 3 cracks on the back of the cab - here is one - should I just weld these back (low temp, slow spot welds) or what should I do?

I should stop by and take a look some time! Here's my cross-town opinion in the mean time.

The corners look pretty swiss-cheesy and candidates for cab-corner replacement. It's your call, as the corners won't be important structurally, but probably won't get any stronger with paint. Now is the time to buckle down and do the replacement. It's a lot of time for a small benefit, but it will firm up the body for another 50 yrs.

The crack is a bit different as it looks like spot welds would do it. Again, for structural strength, you might wonder why the crack happended where it did and if there's a way to prevent this stress again. If the crack is a manifestation of rust thinning an entire section, I vote for a patch panel.

Good point on replacing the corners - we had planned on doing it, but the sandblaster thought that we may be able to repair... so I figured I'd ask the professionals!

As for the cracks - I have no idea what caused them. They are on the back of the cab with zero rust anywhere near them. Metal is full thickness... they are right on the bent spots that you see in the pic (part of the raised ribs on the back). There is the one in the pic, one on the same 'rib' on the other side and one on the next 'rib' over.

Ryan: Go with the patch corners NOW is the time to do it. From past post you are taking a lot of pride in your project. Do IT. Now for the cracks I don't know to much. My 59 is clean except the roof has one HUGE crack can't figure it out.
Project for fall and winter is to start on cab, sitting on roll around now. I do not know much about body work but got a couple of buddies that do. So craash course 101 I'm ready. popcorn The Truth is Out There (Do it right the first time sounds like your papa doesn't it)
