I thought some of yall might like to see my truck's sales invoice from 1955. It is in a preservation sleeve- so, when I scanned it, the folds & wrinkles magnified.

The serial and motor numbers on the receipt match what is in my truck today, and I computer-paint covered up my great uncle's name grin -even though he's long gone and wouldn't care. He was an avid bird hunter, as well.

Out of curiousity, does anybody happen to have the 1954 GMC 1/2 ton truck he traded in? The settlement section says,"Motor E248205659."

BTW, the dealership in my hometown is still in business.

That's bitchen'. Any of that old paper work is cool...

Not a single option!

I wonder if he traded that 'year old '54 GMC for that new Task Force because it was such a step up from the AD or whatever GMC's were called?

From all the family accounts of it, the "modern" design change did have a lot to do with the trade in. (And the reason they held on to it) No options were included at the time, but the truck does have a heater in it.

He may have added it later for heading out fishing and hunting on cool mornings. It was used on the farm a few years, then retired to the task of hauling a john boat to fish for about three decades.

I hope some of my kinfolks can drag out some old pictures of the truck in "action" some of those years. That'd be really neat to have.

Thanks!

That is cool. When my Uncle Bill retired around 1990 he gave me his 70 chevy 1/2 ton.The sales invoice was still in the glove box. If I remember right he paid about 2400 for a brand new truck. No radio but some heavy duty options.---Jack

I found it interesting that the state tax was 1%.

That is interesting & I hadn't noticed the 1% tax rate. What are other state's tax rates on new vehicles?

Code of Alabama, 1975; Section 40-23-61 (today's law):

"(c) An excise tax is hereby imposed on the storage, use or other consumption in this state of any automotive vehicle or truck trailer, semitrailer or house trailer, and mobile home set-up materials and supplies including but not limited to steps, blocks, anchoring, cable pipes and any other materials pertaining thereto, purchased at retail on or after October 1, 1965, for storage, use or other consumption in this state at the rate of two percent of the sales price of such automotive vehicle..."

It's 2% now.

Cool, Tim- That's good info to know. I couldn't sleep much last night, and my internet sleuthing wasn't up to par.

Thanks!
