So I got my 1952 Chevy 1 ton delivered on Monday night from Indiana to my upstate NY hometown of Mechanicville...and I am starting to look it over...searching for some lower gears ratio for more drive-ability but I also noticed my truck has no rear shocks...is that normal???...If not what are you 1 ton guys using for rear shocks???
I noticed I had a factory installed brake booster....do you 1 ton guys leave this in place and if you do how does it work??
Oh yeah this is set up for a dump box, is that a good thing or no??
Any insight would be great.

The 1 tons came standard without shocks. Some guys add them, there is a thread earlier about adding shocks. I have a 1951 1 ton with dual rear wheels and a grain box and it has a brake booster on it, have not gotten far enough to decide anything on it yet, Immediate goal here is to get that truck cleaned up and running. Are you sure it's a 1 ton? The Hydra-Vac units came on the bigger trucks.

I am pretty sure it is a 1 ton, I did a search thru the VIN number and it was built in Kansas City and it is appears to be a 1 ton. The VIN tag is 5KSL 3194....Single wheel rear too. It has a lift mechanism on the back also.

My '54 1 ton GMC has Hydrovac on it. Looks factory to me. I love the way it helps to stop this truck, it's a nice feature, I wish my '49 1 ton had it.

Neither one of my 1 tons have rear shocks.

My '57 3800 has hydrovac and I'm 99% certain it came that way from the factory. It could have been special order because it was a government truck. http://s305.photobucket.com/user/jfnar/media/57%20chevy%203800/7f5847c2.jpg.html

im inclined to up-grade brakes on my 52 1 ton/3800. ive been on free rides to many times(run out of brakes before ya run out of hill).70 torino:turned turtle.international 1 1/2 ton:ride that made me feel old, after i shoock like a leaf for a bit.had 450 case on the back, backward down a hill and around a corner.i already have compleat 14 bolt rear.ive found master cylunders for 47-54 gm trucks that mount under cab, some with vacuume booster(dual diaphram),and bracket for under $200.one with adjustable goodie to work so brakes are better empty and loaded, all for under $200.best of luck to you all. and good luck on your projects

Hi Mike4193, Yes your 52 is a 1ton. Go to stovebolt vin buster and put in your vin. and it will tell you what size, where and when you're truck was built. Gerry Lee
