Everything NAPA has is either too small or too big. The bearing suppliers locally come up short on the barrel type as well. Good online supplier? Thanks much. | | | | Joined: Jan 2013 Posts: 1,384 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2013 Posts: 1,384 | I went through the same thing with the '48 2 ton.
My bearing shop was able to locate some, but didn't want to get them because the price was insane. In the range of $300 per bearing. I couldn't find any other suppliers for new parts.
I found some NOS parts on Ebay at normal prices.
If I hadn't, the next step was to convert to tapered rollers. There is no drop in match. My bearing shop is really good at working with customers and was sure we could find a combination of SAE and metric parts that would work and only require me to do a minimum amount of machining to modify the hubs. | | | | Joined: Jul 2009 Posts: 29 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Jul 2009 Posts: 29 | I just got the front of my '46 2 ton back together. I had no idea that the bearing would be such a big ordeal!
I found the inners on Ebay and picked up the outers from Chevs of the 40's. Not cheap, but they had them in stock somehow.
Do you know the part #'s? Are they the same as mine? I might be able to help you.

The inner seal is an "11424-Z". I have yet to look at my Chevy parts book for the GM numbers. That is on for this weekend. Thanks for the help! | | | | Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 4,903 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 4,903 | There are a lot of early 50's Chev and GMC farm trucks being sold in the Midwest for little more than scrap iron price. I would not hesitate using good used bearings. As long as they have oil and no water, they last almost forever. I recently bought this one in Kansas for $1,000. https://picasaweb.google.com/108197...vEQ&noredirect=1#6002347299271685330 The cab would look good on a pickup and it has a good running 270. | | | | Joined: Oct 2009 Posts: 41 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Oct 2009 Posts: 41 | Now that was a nice truck find! | | |
