I would like to use a 261 cam, specifically the Sealed Power cs-293 cam. It says it fits the 56-58 235 but does not list the 62. Is this just because it was not offered in the 235 in 62? Is there any reason this cam won't work. I would also use the vs424 valve springs. Can anyone tell me if sealed power offers the right lifter? I have not been able to find the part number.
I am also thinking of boring the block .040 over since the pistons are shot. Is there any benefit to milling the 848 head and if so how much?

Just make sure you match it up with new lifters. Mine is a 56 block and i am running a stock 261 cam in mine. I am not really sure what the difference is between the 56 and 62 except the elimination of the side front motor bosses and the external oil line vrs. Internal oil line in the newer block. You might want to call Patrick's Antique Cars and Trucks in Az or the cam manufacturer To double check.
The Classic Chevy Truck Handbook written by Jim Richardson. Has some good reading about to 235 motor Talks about mailing the head and decking the block. If you take too much off your will raise the c ompression to high And you won't be able to run pump gas.
Don't know anything about the springs you are putting in.
The bad part was I found this book after I rebuilt my motor. Its still good reading material now me.

I know in '59 they changed the cam profile a bit and increased the compression ratio. The engine in 1958 was rated for 145hp/210 lb/ft, in 1959-'62 it was rated 135hp/215 lb/ft. A decrease in hp, but an increase in torque. Of course this was on car engines with a hydraulic cam.
