I do have a Dana 60 rear end from a 1970 3/4 ton. Discovered that a rear sway bar on a 73-79 Ford 1 ton dually fits perfect under the 49 3600. The width is exact for the frame. Drilled the frame for 6" sway bar end links purchased at Carquest and made U-bolt mounts for the rearend which needed to clear the knee action shock links. Fits perfect. I'm sure it would even bolt right on to an original rear end. I'd love to post pictures but that's over my head. Is it an 8 lug? | | | | | Joined: Sep 2012 Posts: 222 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Sep 2012 Posts: 222 | Sparky, I installed a Dana 60 from a 70 Chevy 3/4 ton that does have the same 8 bolt wheel pattern. It was a little too wide looking so after a year of running it that way I shortened it by purchasing axle shafts from a J20 Jeep which worked well. The Dana 60 was also a coil spring set-up, so I had to weld on spring perches and the shock mounts from the old rear end. Has 3:54 gears so it really helped highway speeds. Maybe some time you could post some pictures. Installing a more modern rearend is also a way around the problem of finding brake drums for the original setup. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2014 Posts: 34 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Feb 2014 Posts: 34 | I was told a 1970 f250 is the correct width to fit a 3600. Has anyone tried it? | | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 4,983 Master Gabster | | Master Gabster Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 4,983 | I don't know about the 250 but an 80 Camaro is a perfect width and will bolt on 2002 Firebird disc brakes.

Required spring perch relocation, shock mounts transplanted, driveshaft modification, ebrake cable work. Width is very close to original. In fact I'm running 9 3/4" mag wheels with 31/10.50/16.5 tires. Has the same 8-lug pattern, but the center hub on the Ford rear is too large for the stock chevy wheels. So, not a bolt in , but quite doable. With a granny 4speed I do not miss the 4.56's. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2012 Posts: 222 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Sep 2012 Posts: 222 | Sparky, Ironhead is right as far as using a Ford Dana 60. They are more correct to the width and they also have larger (thicker) axle shafts than the Chevy Dana that I used. I just happened to have this one laying around so decided to use it because of the 3:55 gears. As far as the original post about the rear sway bar, the Ford 1 ton dually is a Dana 70 which is just a little larger so the sway bar fits the 60 real nice. Good luck with your project.
