For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 4,263 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 4,263 | do you know the dimensions of the canister? measurements of the old filter? diameter, height. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2013 Posts: 255 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Aug 2013 Posts: 255 | No, was hoping to get a new one ordered before I pulled the old one out for an oil change. Didn't measure the canister but will tonight. Might just pull it anyways. Need to clean the engine up also. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 4,263 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 4,263 | here are two ...pic... the wix is 4 inch diameter the fram is 4 1/2 diameter I believe they are both 4 3/4 tall don't know if that close to what you have | | | | | Joined: Sep 2008 Posts: 872 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2008 Posts: 872 | The key is the center post gasket. The height/width is really not an issue as long as the return hole in the standpipe is covered... and you can adjust the height of the filter with washers. My trucks us a variant of the S-2 but called the 'Military Senior filter' (my jeep uses the Military Junior filter). NAPA Gold 1503 or WIX 51503 http://www.fleetfilter.com/mm5/merc...mp;Product_Code=51503&Category_Code=Going price is about $8-$9 There used to be a place in NC that would ship any case you ordered for $0.99. O'reilly's ordered all that they had listed for that year GMC, so I've got a couple choices when I pull it next week. Hopefully one will fit. Guess I'll have to wait on the gasket for the canister till I've got it pulled. Thats the same filter I use in my 42 Ford. But the 270 should have a MUCH larger can. LOOK AT THE SIZE OF THE OIL FILTER! You'd have to stack 2 of the 51100's to fill it up... that's if you have anything close to a proper oil filter. Also, the 51503 is 4.093 in diameter.
