Got my fresh 235 in and took first maiden voyage today. What a difference from the 216! WOW! I'm in heaven. Got vacuum and timing set nice. Got my Langdon dual webers tuned, Williams headers sound nice! Have nice rat tat tat on acceleration. Got my dual pies straight out back, just finished clamping them today. Look Awesome!
Going to take some pics...
I love this site! While I don't ask a ton of questions, I have found the search option very, very accommodating! Thanks all, Phil...

Going thru the brakes on my 45 1.5 ton. Replaced the right front wheel cylinder. Found a pinhole leak in the brake line crossing to the left front. Replaced that line. Had the rocker cover off, put new hats on the valve stems (thank you Pre 68 Dave!). Replaced a leaky oil gauge line.

Put everything back together, cranke 'er over, was rewarded with an awful squalling sound, a fwap and thump. Lord, I've somehow blown up my babbit pounder 235!

No, failed to notice that the brake leak had been spraying up just in front of the generator. At least, I think thats what caused the poor things bearings to seize up. The fwap thump was the belt letting go. But I had an extra generator in my box of extry parts, so thats on now, go hit the MFA for a belt tomorrow.

Drydock, if one brake line rusted through the rest can't be far behind. You ought to replace them all.

I just finished adjusting the rear brakes on the Suburban. While doing that I noticed the backing plate bolts were loose. I had to pull the drums to fix that. It's always something.

Painted my new bed sides and tailgate while it was pouring down rain. Back when I first learned to paint, this was considered a no no and I stilled believed that to be true. But the weather forecast in Austin is rain/high humidity for the next week or more. Did a little research on the web and decided it would be ok. No apparent ill effects and most importantly, no dust or bugs! I might have to paint in the rain exclusively from now on. I allowed extra flash time between coats.

This weekend I removed all brake drums and backing plates- cleaned and painted them. Installed all new wheel cylinders, new brake lines hard and soft new shoes and got new E brake/ connection hardware installed. Repacked front bearings as well as cleaned up some of the front end components- I tried bleeding brakes- one fitting leaking. ( also new MC installed last week or so ago) I hope to get that buttoned up this week so it's back on the ground and ready to roll. About 40 hours put into her this weekend.... smile

Got the new belt on, fired right up. Drove it down to the MFA and picked up another new tire. 2 more paychecks and I'll have a full set of 6!

Replaced all the lines last year. A clip came loose and allowed this line to rub now and then on the balancer. dang not me

I got my hood painted! That,s the last big part. I will rub it out next week. I also installed my grill guard and outer crank support. I installed the wiper arms. Next the silver and red pin stripe. Then I have an appointment for inspection and title. It should be on the road in three weeks! Yupee!

Great news, GW!!!

All I got done was moving parts around to make room for a honey do project. Hopefully, I'll knock that out before the weekend.

What a busy weekend on the truck! Installed an hei in the 235, built and installed a complete pcv system so no more dirty down draft, replaced all soft gas lines and installed a gas shut off valve so future gas filter replacement will be mess free. Also fabbed up a timing marker on the balancer to make future timing easier. In all a LONG but productive weekend!

I don't know that it has a name. I picked it out of a catalog at the paint shop for the Nason paints.

Here the codes for the paint

I shot it at 8:2:1 (paint/reducer/catalyst)

Took the rear fenders off, and got the bed all unbolted and ready to lift off. Next will be taking the running boards and front fenders off. Sorry that I won't be driving it for a while, but if I don't take the first step toward getting the body in good shape, it'll never happen. Today was encouraging, because removing the fenders and bed was relatively easy!

Completed bed assembly/install. Here is a photo of the first piece of Ipe installed. I thought I had a photo of the complete bed, but don't. Will have to get that this evening and edit post tomorrow. Getting closer....

Photo of completed bed wood. Unfinished Ipe.

Got the corner windows in, gas tank painted and installed, started replacing motley collection of hardware with the right clutch-head parts. I hope to get the engine installed in the next week or so.

Started to sand the rear fenders. Lots of Bondo to remove! Looks like some PO had clumped it on but never finished. The fenders really aren't in that bad shape under all the mud.

Don't forget to coat the ends, a particularly important spot to prevent rot. I always set the ends in whatever i'm using overnight to let the stain/clear soak in real good.

I replaced the shocks on the Suburban and they fought me all the way. Also lubed the chassis while I was under there. Took me 4 hours to get 'er done.

Got my new 235 started for first time. New el system too, needed a bit of troubleshooting but now everything works except the blinkers. Horn works, gauges work, lights too. The 235 has a bit of extra pep!

Got the hood off, grille out and working on rad support to rad bolts in prep for removing front clip. Going to install Scott Danforths front crossmember. Already have the S10 front control arms ,springs and spindles. Need to install my new bushings in front hardware. Slow going at my age (82) but I am determined to get it done. I will attempt to document the crossmember install as I go with some pics. Would love to hear from anyone else that has done this particular installation.

Well, yesterday I got a professional safety inspection done. The guy usually does heavy-duty trucks, like Kenworths etc., and said he has seen 2010 trucks with fewer issues than mine. I do have to buy a front brake drum, though ...
