MY 51 half ton three on the tree shift linkages at the column are very sloppy or lose .IT seem that there are 60+ year old grommets or bushings there but bad are they available from any parts house .I am hoping this might help with getting tighter shifting. ANY feed back will be appreciated. THANKS

Talk to any old farmer who drove these trucks to death,and he'll tell you to buy two sets, one for the glove box. Once these rubber parts get some wear in them, you will suffer the dreaded stuck in two gears syndrome and have to get out and unjam it. I made some brass bushings and can feel the shifting of the transmission through the gear shifter much better and I won't have to worry about replacing them. You might be able to find bronze bushings used for worn door hinges in the 'Help Rack' at a FLAPS that will work. Another problem is excessive wear of the shift rods that go in shifter arms on the transmission. I TIG welded the missing metal back on them to tighten them up.

I did the same thing, though I sourced my bushings from the local Farm & Fleet in the machinery parts section. I don't recall the part numbers, went by size.

FOUND the bushings at a local farm store AGWAY. Easy to install. NOW I HAVE A NEW problem it seems i lost the shift pattern and it is stuck in reverse.Before i put the new bushing in i drove it to the store . MUST HAVE done something stupid!!!!!!!!! ANY FEED BACK

Make sure both arms on the shift selector are set at the same height.

I remove shifter box cover,be careful when doing this. Put it in neutral.It will look like a H in shifter box.Than line up.look on page 15or16 you will find good picture

TOOK it apart found three pieces of the spring that the shaft goes through ( ONE piece was sticking up through the lever forks and it jammed it). Next stupid Question where do i get a spring to fix this .Maybe i will Shoemaker it with similar springs of the same size i have in my junk part box. thanks for feedback BJF
