The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Paint and Body Shop Lost VIN Plate??

My '46 truck lost its VIN plate, but thank goodness it was registered using the VIN number and not the engine number. I obtained a replacement, only to realize I had no means to stamp the numbers onto the plate. I laid it aside until my wife showed me an ad for "Harbor Freight Tools" that included three different stamp sets (1/16", 1/8", 1/4"). Well, the 1/8" set was a near perfect match to the original size and font -- and cost less than $8.00! Warning -- it does not take a heavy hammer blow to mark those repo VIN plates!

Actually, datatags does not restore existing tags, but makes new blanks that you have to have stamped. I just asked this service about my 36 GMC to have my VIN tag restored and he replied that he dosen't restore nor does he have older truck VIN tags.

My 46 suburban has a weird set of numbers on the title which do not in any way match the plate I have. Could these be numbers off the motor or somewhere else?

More than likely that number is the engine number, which was frequently used on titles back then. The only problem with doing that was if the engine is changed, then you have a title number that is no where on the truck itself!
