Hi everyone. Tonight I drove my truck for the first time ever, and I've owned it for over 10 years! A big shout out to all the good people on this forum who lent me a hand.

The truck only went around the block a few times, it still needs a good once over before it's road ready. But I should say it was not really a whole lot of fun to drive. It wanted to stall out between neutral and first or reverse.

But it's great to get the truck moving for the first time ever!

Congratulations. It only gets better from here.

Congrats on the drive! It's a good looking truck & the not fun stalling may be an easy fix. Before my truck was getting disassembled & I was driving it, two separate occasions of stalling were remedied with addressing distributor issues (points cleaned, and vacuum advance/timing).

Anyways- glad you're rolling!

Congratulations on that special occasion. It does only get better from here! A few years back, I had trouble with my float sticking and once in a while it would flood out when I took my foot off the gas. The immediate symptom was that it would just die on me. Once I got that straightened around it was happy again.

Congratulations, Stove. I'm there with you.

I just got the Blue Funk back on the Road, and even though there's still quite a ways to go to Completion, it's exciting being able to start it up and do short trips.

Happy Trucking!

Stove,

Congratulations! Just experienced the same a few months ago, it is a great feeling to transition from lawn ornament to a driving truck. Many small shake down runs will be needed, but that is part of the fun.

Best of luck.

It is just very different from a modern vehicle. The brakes don't stop on a dime, the steering is sloppy, and the gears were a little hard to find. Also, I hit the starter button a couple times by accident.

The deal breaker was the "hesitation" on acceleration. After driving it to fill up with gas I think maybe it feels like a faulty accelerator pump, so I switched to a rebuilt carb.

It's all good though, I'll be hauling dirt in no time. One of the best things about the truck is the sound of the engine. Tick-a-tick-a-ticka! Sweeeeeet.

The 'first time' is always filled with mixed feelings of joy and trepidation but great fun all the same, you'll soon deal with the little gremlins that may pop up.
We've been spoiled by modernity imo,it's just great to get back to driving something that feels alive rather than the A/C cooled 'power everything' contraptions we call cars/trucks these days.

Enjoy!

Congrats on your first drive. I am hoping to do the same in the coming few weeks. I just have the bed to complete and then ready to roll. My goal is to get the truck on the road for our neighborhood 4th of July parade. Working hard to achieve that goal....

This is much easier and almost fun to drive now that the carb works properly!

Still the gears are grinding a bit going into first. Maybe I have to double clutch?

Also, this truck enters third gear pretty slow. Can someone tell me if it is okay to open the throttle full blast on the highway? Or is this too hard on the engine.

Stove, shifting to the non-syncro first is only done at a dead stop, although you may be able to 'double clutch' it down at very slow speed, there is no need and really, it's abusing the box - the double clutching might be useful 2nd to 3rd .... you can give it full throttle anytime, but I don't think you'd want to hold it there indefinitely
