I am now trying to wire what I can in the truck. Here is a picture of the harness partly installed:

I am follwing the instructions that came with the harness and one thing I need to figure out is which side of the ammeter is positive and negative. Do positive and negative terminals correspond with the other side of the gauge?

I also am not sure as to where all six of these lights go. Well I know that there are two places in the gauge cluster, three in the speedo and one by the ignition switch, but I don't know which goes where. There are five light sockets with the same label on my harness and there is one, which I think it calls a "high beam indicator". Where does this one go, and as far as the other ones, does it matter about their location?

Now, a question about the double contact sockets for the turn signals: How do you get the single contact ones out of there to put in the double? They don't really budge so I don't want to break anything:

Also, just making sure, but on the parklamps, I should just be able to pop the old one out and insert the double contact socket right?

If I could get some or all of those questions answered it would help out alot. I'm gonna try to read through the turnsignal directions and see if I can figure everything out. I might still need some help on routing the wires to the rear and the sending unit wire locations also. More turnsignal wiring questions might follow if I get stumped. Thanks for all the help so far.

Justin,

Beautiful work and nice pictures, keep it up. I think I can answer at least one question, although you had it figured out already. The posts on the ammeter DO correspond to the Discharge and Charge symbols on the front.

Charging system and loads go on the Discharge (-) side and the Charge side (+) goes to the battery/starter.

Where did you get a harness with no instructions? Anyhow, you will have bulbs for each of the cluster sockets and the high beam indicator goes in the bottom center of the speedometer. I think that you should also have a bulb in the ignition switch bracket. Also, the bulb for the high beam indicator is a smaller bul than the others although this really doesn't matter.

If your parking lights are original style, the socket will not just pop out, I would think.

My harness had the instructions on where all the wires go, but it just didn't have info on where all the lights go, or what kind they are. That should help me guys. Thanks. I just need to figure out how to get the sockets out of the rear lights now.

You saw off the old socket & enlarge the hole so the new one will snap in. Put a little RTV around the edge to seal it. The dash lights with grey wire can go in any dash light hole. The high beam hole has a tube in it & colored lens at the face of the instument.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.
