Curious to see were the compressor mounts on a 235 in a 1950 3100. Anyone have a couple of pictures of an install they can share? Thanks

235 or 216, compressor mounting should be the same. Here is a photo of how I mounted the compressor on my '52 216. I used Old Air Products a/c kit. Look through my photo album for more pics of the a/c install.

that is an amazing photo album and a beautiful truck build. How much of the compressor and alternator mounting did you have to fab up yourself? Do you use a solenoid on your idle setting for the air conditioning?

Here is another view of a compressor/alternator mount on a 235 with the compressor on top and the alternator on the bottom. Brackets were self-fabricated. This is a single belt installation.

Thanks! No, I don't have an idle compensating solenoid on the carb at this time as I have not even started the engine or driven the truck...still working on finishing up the bed box. The compressor/alt mounting hardware/brackets were provided in the a/c kit package. Not the best, but hopefully it will work. I like the brackets offered by Classic Parts...seems a very smart and clean design. I might switch one day.

What year is your truck Matt, and how did you recess the AC control into the dash???

Denny, it is a '57. I removed the ashtray and the small bar that the ashtray hinges on. I fabricated the controls to fit into the ashtray opening. I bent the metal plate that holds the thermostat and the fan switch to fit curve of the dash using the profile of the ashtray as a template. The slots for the sliding switches were cut with a Dremel cut off wheel and a straight edge. Once I had the base plate fabricated, I had it chrome plated (only $15). The Harrison Air Conditioning logo is from a metal reproduction tag that I bought on the internet then split so that "Harrison" could go on one side of the controls and "Air Conditioning" could go on the other.

My goal was to make the controls look like they were a factory option.

I didn't want to hack up my dash. If the a/c ever comes out, the ashtray can easily pop back in.

Regarding the question about using an idle stop solenoid on the carb, I do not have one. I simply increase the idle speed a bit to cover the load of the compressor. The truck idles a bit more than it should without the a/c on, but not so much that anyone but a Stovebolter would notice. It idles normal with the a/c on.
