This is the small strip that goes in the big gasket.

I bought the tool 15+ years ago and never used it. I remember seeing it last year. After searching for 4 four hours today, I gave up (but, I organized a lot of parts). I noticed in the original manual, the tool back then - in the picture, looks like it is a small wire loop with a handle.
Of course tools 60 years ago have probably been improved now.

I was looking at a photo of one in use in the 55-59 GMC Maint. Manual for models 100 thru 500. And it looked different, but did the same thing.
Anyway, I ordered the one from Classic Parts, probably will never use it but one time.

Yes, the 54 one is maybe even more "advanced" than the Classic Parts one. The "modern" Lisle one is better looking. Post a link to a photo of the 55-59 one (or mail a photo to me). We might as well see the GMC tool.
By the way, I'll get good use out of mine - I'll use it twice in one year (and then lose it again, I suppose).

Yeah, it did ! The pic in the lower left shows the tool. Sorta looks like a wire prongs. Should be able to click on the photo and make it larger.
