| | | | Joined: Feb 2007 Posts: 435 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2007 Posts: 435 | I recently rebuilt my 230, and shortly after I got it back up and running, the temp gauge started pegging out as soon as I turn on the key. Is the gauge bad or do I have a short. You can unhook it at the sending unit and it'll still do it when you turn the key on.

Do you have the right sending unit. There is a difference in the sender for a light or gauge. When the wire is off the sender the gauge should read O. When it is grounded it should read hot. The light green wire goes to the temp. & the blue wire to the oil.

It was working for a while(several days)and then just started pegging out as soon as the ignition was switched on. Even with it unhooked at the sender, it stays pegged out. If I don't find the "obvious" short in short order, I'll replace the wire from the sender to the gauge and see what happens. Got to keep in mind it's an old truck. Chased the wires looking for obvious shorts(didn't find any)but when I went back and tried the ignition, it was working like it should. Guess I'll be making the investment for a set of add on aftermarket gauges and build some kind of console to house them in. Don't want them hanging from under the dash. Hope it doesn't decide to go up in smoke some night.
