I was just wondering if anyone could tell me how to find out what size alternator I have. This is a '66 with V8 and std trans. It has a deluxe heater package I believe. There is no ID on the alt. so I can't tell. I guess some parts you get require this info.
Thanks a lot.

Most alternators do have an id stamped in the metal. You may have to pull it and wire brush it off to find it. There should be a part no, voltage, and amperage.

Gary,

For some reason 37 amps comes to mind. Does a '66 still have a external regulator...this would be the device that actually controlled how much current the alternator was allowed to put out.

It should be stamped on the front housing just below the ear for the adjuster bracket. It probably was 37 or 42 amps but most rebuilders build them up to 55 amps. An alternator will not put out more then it,s designed amps. regardless of what you throw at it or how fast you turn it.

Thank you gentlemen. I have found the stamping. It is in fact a 37 amp.
