I am installing aftermarket A/C in my '56. The controller in the truck now has 'A/C' etched into it below the word 'FAN' that is on them all. I've never seen another one in 9 years of looking at car shows.

I've always wondered if it is a Factory A/C switch or an aftermarket unit. But I have no idea if A/C was offered in '56. I'm pretty sure the later '50's trucks could order it. It might be a controller from another year.

Then again, it might be an aftermarket unit. I can find no markings on it and the works are strangely similar to the new controller provided with the Old Air kit.

Anyway, I plan to use the one that was on it. I'm just curious about what it is. Anyone ever seen one with 'A/C' etched in? Was there a factory A/C specific switch in the Task Force years? Anyone have pics of one?

I'll have to post a pic later from the house. I'm on my shop computer and have been waiting for a password reset on Photobucket since before I started typing this.

factory AC started in '58 - I've never seen a factory A/C setup or an original deluxe control with A/C on it - most repro controls don't say A/C, but some have "A/C - Heat" for the temperature lever

that does look like the modern replacement control that Brothers and others offer with the aftermarket heater/AC units, not sure there was an original like that, but as A/C wasn't optioned in trucks until '58, can't see that they would have had a control for it any earlier
