I need help in more than one way but this thing has me going nuts. I'm working on a 1941 GMC/yellow coach school bus It has been setting 30 40 years and used as home for people over the years I have it running with normal suff that you would do to a vehicle that been sitting like that. I needed a radiator but turns out the cooling system in this is much larger than standered ( it is in NM ) so just got a new one we will see how that goes when I get to putting it in.To day was front brake work, to start with I'm missing the to outer wheels in the back with that said back to the front I had noticed that the front driver side wheel was not sitting flat on the drum so I filled and ground off where it had mushroomed the hub and thought that it had just never been tightened and had messed it up. No such luck, the wheel opening on both front wheels is 5 7/8 and the wheel hub is clearly 6" on the driver side, the other side may be just setting flat on the hub cover witch by the way has only 4 bolts and is flat and missing on the driver side, unlike the one in photos I've looked at with 6 screws. the rear carrier is 5 3/4 so the front ones would fit back there ( the ones on the back have 8 cut out in the wheels and the front have 5 and the lug hole are huge next to the lug them self). WTF do I have, would the front need a different wheel from the rear?? If any one has any idea or part please let me know I probable need some sort of different lug bolts on the back that I don't have now and at least two wheels.

Hy sky nighthawk, it sounds like you have a mismatch of front and rear wheels. Being a GM product it probably has Motor Wheels on the front axle, possibly the rear axle has been swapped out at some point and the rear hubs are probably for Budd wheels, hope that helps.

Had to go to town today I'll try for some photos tomorrow. so what and where do I find wheels for the front? I haven't worked on any thing this size in a long time so how are the rear wheels mounted? They don't just bolt together do they? Didn't dodge or international make a 5 bolt wheel that had huge lug bolts could these be one of them? anybody have a set of wheels to sell there is nothing around here for parts.

Jeff your front hub cover look like mine but my rear end is a split one and the wheels on it look like yours with 8 cut outs

It sounds like 3B is right, all 6 wheels should be the same. I have 5 lug lock ring Motor wheels on my truck, which are the original wheels that came on it from the factory.

Many Fords, Dodge, & International trucks used the same wheels as Chevy & GMC

The rear wheels are held on just like the front, the only difference is that the outer wheel goes on backside facing out, then the lug nuts go on last which is what holds the 2 wheels together.

What series truck is yours? Mine is a 1945 400 series 2 1/2 ton with an Eaton 1350 2 spd. rear end

I don't really know what series it is, I think 1 1/2 or 2 ton is a guess. I looked at the other side today and that wheel is just sitting on the cover. so I believe I need two wheels and a hub cover to start and 4 to do it all. Any Idea where to start to look? just for a grin rather than find the wright wheels way back when being one wouldn't lay flat they adjusted one tie rod all the way out and the other all the way in. I'm glad this thing doesn't go real fast!

So it sounds like your'e saying that the center hole in the wheel is too small to fit over the hub, but the lugs fit through the lug holes? Am I right?

Also , to find out what truck you have look on the cowl under the hood on the right side, the tag with the serial number should be there, it's held on with 2 phillips head screws.

The serial number is also stamped on the right frame rail just above the front spring hanger. That number will tell us what you have.

From what youv'e described, it sounds like you have the same front axle as I have.

right the wheel wont go over the hub and the lug holes are huge compared to the lugs on the truck. the plate on the cowl is from the yellow bus co it list it as mod ccs 305 series 14500, serial 14015 then there is a plate riveted to the fire wall with a different No.

I have never tried this before so see what happens

It worked.

You have a 300 series truck which I beleive is a 1 1/2 ton
the 30 indicates 300 series
the 5 indicates a 195 1/4 wheel base.

the tag rivited to the drivers side is the body number

the truck should have come with a 228 or a 236 from the factory.
