Need some help with starting.
I have a 59 GMC p/u 270 with a turn key push button start. I hook the batt. up and the gen. light comes on. Turn the key, push the button and nothing happens. Gen. light is always on.
On the starter sol. I have 2 small term. P and S
I connected the purple wire to the S term. Connected the push button start in line on the purple wire from the starter.
I'm not sure about the ign. switch and the push button start. Any help would be great.
Thank you.

What have you changed besides adding a battery? The gen light should only come on when the ignition is on and the engine is not running. Has this truck ever run while you have owned it?

You have the starter wire hooked up correctly. Try crossing the S term to the bat. cable term. with a screwdriver or something. That should kick in the sterter if it works & the bat is hot. (Be shure it is in neutral.) The other term. on the push button should go to bat. or ign. switch. You might try diconnecting wires from the voltage regulator & see if the light goes out. The wires could hooked up wrong to the ign. switch. You will need a wireing diagram to trace it.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.

The push button is to the right of the switch. I know 100% the switch and button work. It worked when I had the 283 in the truck. The dash wiring got all ****ed up and I had to do the best I could with the spare harnesses I had from the parts truck.
Yes, the gen light is on with the key off.
I'll turn the key on and push the button and nothing happens.
Here's what I have so far hooked to the switch,
Purple wire from term. S to the ign.
Lt green is to ign. 2
Pink is to ign. 1
Red wire to batt
Two pink wires off the acc.
I have the 270 in the truck now.
