I want to rid the sag on my exterior door handles. I bought the new springs for the handles. I opened the door and found they are inside the actual lock/handle mechanism. shows tabs to be opened- Im not that brave yet, I see the coil spring and assume the spring to right my sagging handles is int here- Anyone have any advice or taken that cover off before and some insight as to how to do it without parts flying all over the place? Just trying to avert a disaster- Thank you guys

No No. You don't have to take the lock mechanism apart the springs fit on the outsideof the mechanism. You have to take the latch out of the truck and the spring fits on the door handle side of the latch. It's really simple. I'll send you a couple of pictures that shows how it's done. Sorry can't post them here.

Just remember there is a pass. and drivers side spring. They are different, a mirror image of the other.

I'll get the pics off to you. You'll see it's no big deal.

Hi George.

I wonder if you could send me that photo of the spring. I was just thinking about the sag of my handles and started to look into this while researching something else... something you may know too.

My shaft broke in the passenger side lock for my '42 GMC panel 1/2 ton. To be clear, I have the original handle, the original working lock and key. The lock cylinder seems to slip into handle and is attached to the shaft that runs through the whole handle. It sheared off just past the cylinder. I'm sure this must happen to a lot of people, but I can't find a replacement shaft. Any know sources ? I'll be posting the query shortly as I can't spend all weekend reading every non related post... the one hour has been fun but....
