For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: May 2009 Posts: 11 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: May 2009 Posts: 11 | Ive been looking all over this forum and on the internet on Booster upgrades. I am planning on using a 7" vacume brake booster with a dual MC. In theroy it should work but I would like to know for sure? I have a 51 chevy with a 2 speed rear end. the MC has a 1" bore. Will ths setup move enough fluid to the rear Wheel cylinders? They have two per side. One note of caution with the brake kits, make sure the master cylinder you purchase is for the type of brakes you have, drum/drum for drum brakes, disc/drum for a disc drum setup, and disc/disc for an all disc brake setup, any system with the same type of brake at all wheels should not require a compensating valve, hope that helps. | | | | | Joined: May 2009 Posts: 11 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: May 2009 Posts: 11 | I believe it to be a 6400. The vin buster won't work on my computer I tried several times. The vin is JEA1153162. It would not work for me either. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 6,100 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 6,100 | Hy tomc9770, I think that number might be an engine serial number, there should be a plate somewhere on the cab with the model/series info on it, check around. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,269 Bubba - Curmudgeon | | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,269 | JEA1153162JEA = 1951 6000 series with 235 engine (Flint, MI assembly plant) | | | | | Joined: Nov 2010 Posts: 430 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2010 Posts: 430 | | | | | | Joined: May 2009 Posts: 11 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: May 2009 Posts: 11 | The vin on the registration is wrong I just checked the vin tag on the truck and that reads 2UWK10562. Thank you | | | | | Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 6,100 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 6,100 | Hy tomc9770, according to the VIN buster your truck was built at Tarrytown N.Y. in November 1951, it is a 6400 2 ton with a 161" wheelbase. That truck had a master cylinder with a bore of 1 1/4", and that is the minimum size bore I would use on any new master cylinder I installed on that truck, hope that helps. | | | | | Joined: May 2009 Posts: 11 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: May 2009 Posts: 11 | Thank you all for your help I found a few master cylinders with a 1 1/4" bore later model C20s I'm hoping it will fit on universal 8" power booster if so I should be in business.
