For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Oct 2013 Posts: 97 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2013 Posts: 97 | Are the headlight bezels or trim rings on my 46 chevy 3/4 ton stainless steel? I ask because they are the only part of the buckets that aren't rusted. The bezels on my 1 1/2 ton are completely rusted out and it is the same year truck and all original. thanks, lane

However, some SS is magnetic so look at the back side of the rim, if it was plated you will see discoloration where the hangers were placed during the plating process. dg

I believe the 46 rings are supposed to be chromed steel but I'm not 100% sure. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2013 Posts: 97 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2013 Posts: 97 | I thought they should be chromed steel too ..... I tried Denny's idea with a magnet and they proved [at least in my mind] to be stainless ..... in addition, there were scuffs or rough places that had no rust at all while everything else in and around the buckets were rusted to 'high heaven' ..... now I'm hammer and dollying out the dings so they can be placed back on the refurbished buckets ..... living in south Louisiana everything that has been around this long seems to be rusted out .... thanks everyone for your feedback [oh, and the idea of using Barkeeper's Friend to polish stainless I saw somewhere on the bolt this week makes this a cheap, money-wise anyway, repair .... having pretty good luck hammering the dings in the stainless lane
