Planning an S-10 frame swap with a 1997 Vortec 350. I would like to use as much of the Vortec wiring as possible. If anyone has done a conversion similar the this I would appreciate any info or advise. ralph [email protected]

Install is straight forward but they are not working at this point. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2008 Posts: 3,750 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2008 Posts: 3,750 | Ralph,I bought the New Vintage Woodward series gauges and installed them using a technique developed by fellow bolter Danimal. We used old gauge housings (which were toast anyway) to adapt the new units for a more factory look and to avoid the extra cost of fancy billet dashboard adapters. Run up 700+miles with the new units and only one problem so far,the fuel sender needs a little adjustment for better accuracy (my fault). Here's my take on it,I hope this helps. They make reasonably priced harnesses to hook up the fuel injection to their chassis harness and it makes the whole process easier. | | | | | Joined: May 2011 Posts: 266 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: May 2011 Posts: 266 | Update, my gauges are now working!!!! it does not matter what harness you go with it's the gauges that's the problem. Instead of making simple like for like senders they are all different. For example the oil pressure sender is at the back of the block, my gauge package sends me a new sender with a kit to tap into the oil pressure by-pass at the filter???? You will have to go on e-bay and purchase a $10.00 part to make this work. Then the temp. sending unit (good luck) !!! you need a 3 wire to make the gauge read. 98 Firebird or Camaro , they can be found. you will need to remove the plug in the opposite head and install the 3 wire sender. ( I was told on ls-1 do not replace the 2 wire with the 3 wire which seems the logical thing to do). So I didn't. But finally the gauges are working, there is no simple plug and play. | | |
