and from the serial number: 136 HP and a Powerglide...that makes it from a car and has hydraulic lifters.

That will ID the date of the head - the "848" head had a long run and was often used as a replacement head on any 53 and new 235 engine (a replacement head from GM or from a donor engine). | | |
