Couple questions regarding these two things.

I took the 3-speed shifting box off the column in the engine bay and beneath was this hole:
hole

I assume this is so there is some wiggle room for the shifting box to move up and down... but I'm not putting it back in the truck... so should this hole be left open? sealed somehow? If so, how?

Regarding the brake cable hangers and repop cables.
Is this the correct way to run them through the hanger?
The original cables weren't there as a guide.

I would cover that with some thing...looks close to the rubber that fits in the brake adjuster holes. The steering box is open to that shaft and tube so don't let dirt get in there. The cables look OK to me..but you have a 54 and I have a 52 so I don't know how they were supposed to go. Some one will soon I hope.

The repop parking brake cables from Carter and the other suppliers are not made like the originals. The cables from Inline Tube are. As you can see in the photo parking brake cable Inline's have a metal sheath around the entire cable while the one you have is plastic with only a small metal portion on the end. From my experience, you need to clamp to the metal metal part or the cable will slip when you depress the parking brake.
