The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area The Electrical Bay Turn Signal wiring ?

I'm trying to wire new repop tailights on my 51 3104, replacing the cobbled up mess of trailer lights a PO put on it. The switch is a NAPA 638 6 wire, the wiring diagrams I've found for this switch are 7 wire. I'm thinking the extra wire is for the indicator lamp, which mine doesn't have. Is anyone familiar with a 6 wire switch? I should have written down the old diagram, but I gave up trying to trace the mess! I just rung it out per the TECH TIP, just looking for any help or advice.Also, I'm installing an inline fuse, any advice on size? Thanks, John

The sheet that comes with the switch should show were each wire goes. It seems each manufacture has their own color sceme. With a 7 wire switch you will need to bring the wire from the stop light switch & go through the turn switch. If you are running 12 volts, 14 gauge wire will work good for going from the fuse to the flasher & to the switch. 12 gauge on 6 volts.

Got the stop,turn and tail rewired and working. I spent some time trying to figure out why I had both rear turn, rear worked as hazards, but no right brake. Finally I took the cover off the switch and sprayed with contact cleaner. 50 years of dust and crud removed, works like new. John
