I was thinking the the side of the seal that has the rubber flush with the metal goes to the outside. Is this right?
Thanks in advance. | | | | Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,112 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,112 | You should always go by the lip. The lip of the seal should point towards the oil side. | | | | Joined: Aug 2010 Posts: 182 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2010 Posts: 182 | Each of these seals has a double lip. Maybe it doesn't matter which way they go. I've always installed oil seals with the flush side out because I figure if you'd put the side that has the gap out it would just collect dirt in that gap. | | | | Joined: Dec 2012 Posts: 16 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2012 Posts: 16 | I recently replaced the oil seals on my 48 3/4 ton, as you describe (part number visible when installed) | | |
