Thinking of installing either a 4bt 6bt or a 12 valve cummins diesel motor in my 1949 chevy 3100. Wondering if any one else has done this in anything and if they have any pics of it done

That would be a neat mod. All that torque and HP would be wasted on the stock 49 3100's drivetrain so you're looking at an engine to rear swap.

I don't know what the weight of the Cummins is but I'll swag it's atleast 100lbs if not more heavier so you're looking at beefing up the straight axle front end.

Wonder if a 3100's cab & bed would fit on a Ram's frame?

Anythings doable, it just depends on your skill level and available funds....
Good luck

The 4BT is going to weigh around 750 lbs and the 6BT is going to be around 950-975 lbs. I don't know how stout you can make a MII suspension but it could be the limiting factor for the larger diesel. This could be a neat swap with the right parts and pieces. Like Dave said it only takes time and money. Good Luck.

12 valve all the way. Strictly mechanical injection. Grind a fuel late and make 400hp and 900torque all day long reliably. Trans and rear will need to be built up or swapped from a dodge. My buddy has a 12 valve with 300,000 miles and with 400/900 daily driver. Gets 22 mpg. No mods but a fuel plate grind.

I can explain it to you, I can't understand it for you.

need new frame.
4BT is 50# heavier than stock 216 boat anchor. #775 or so.
6BT in running config is 1200#

4bt fits.
6bt means useing a GMC radiator, fan in front of radiator
or cutting doghouse into firewall.
google 6BT dimensions and you will find images with dimensions.
~25" 4bt
~35" 6bt
doghouse in your truck to fins on GMC radiator(farther from firewall than chevy rad) is about 36"

I have both in my yard.

drove 4bt in 8,000 firto van with chevy auto.
like it.

google 4BTswaps.com

free up your nights and just read all over the forum before oyu post and ask questions there-LOTS of info.

BTW-that MII wont be heavy enough for a 6BT.
period.

it MIGHT sustain a 4BT if you purchase adjustable coilovers that have teh correct spring rate.

personally-I would NOT use MII under either diesel.
not sturdy enough components.

maybe a narrowed 73-87 front truck suspension, maybe a camaro subframe.
maybe OEM front axle with coilover shocks.
