Which side of the needle should be the triangle on?
In my repair manual it says it should be 3-5 degrees BTDC.
Any help on this would be appreciated.

The engine is rotating clockwise as you view it from the front, (facing windsheild) If I remember correctly, the pointer is on the passenger side, rear of engine. So advanced timing (BTDC) should be below the pointer, Retarede (ATDC) should be above it. | | |
#10197 04/29/2002 5:53 PM | Joined: Mar 2001 Posts: 327 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Mar 2001 Posts: 327 | I take it that this is a 62-235 so this is how you set the timing on 59-62, 235s. in the round window where you can see your fly wheel you will (or should) see a "0" and some marks on either side of it. Your engine (as you look at the fly wheel from the front) will turn clockwise(left to right). Your timing that you want is 5 degrees BTDC and that will be one mark to the RIGHT of the "0". Those marks are five degrees for each one. This "0" should be a little ball. Remember that you want the pointer on the first line "clockwise" (to the right) from the "0".

Didn't do it after the engine was at running temp. I checked out the wet puddle, and it looks like it is moisture. :confused: The engine idles with a slight lope like a hopped up engine.  I have completely tuned up the engine, but wanted to be sure before I changed the current timing. I'll keep you guys posted on what happens after I reset the timing.  Chevyboy62

That is what this board is all about. Now, as to this oil splatter business- Do you have an oil leak someplace? Oil leaks can be a nuisance. When you park it is there a puddle left behind when you leave? Let me know, most oil leaks are an easy fix.
