The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area The Electrical Bay Lock ring to replace sending unit

What's the trick to getting the sending unit out of a 69 pickup? Seemed like i may be forcing things, so I stopped and decided I'd get some good advise.

I have seen that ring attacked with a screwdriver and hammer to 'unscrew' it. Sometimes it takes a coordinated effort by two people smacking in unison on opposite ears. I vaguely remember seeing a piece of keystock laid across two ears and a long wrench used to twist the keystock in a 'unscrewing' direction. I don't know if this is good advice or not!

That is how I began attacking it but the force seemed excessive so I stopped. It's been there for 37 years maybe it a little attached to its current position.

I think what you need is a spanner. If what you are talking about is what I think, what you need is a tool that will apply pressure equally on bothe side of the nut. You need a basically open end wrench with tabs to grab the lugs on the nut or ring. You can make one easily enough even with out fancy equipment. A piece of flat stock with a drill with a hole cutter a file and time you can make what you want, Just my two bits worth, Jimmie.
