I'm in the process of replacing the original gas tank on my '57 3600. I found all the parts that I would need in the usual online sources, but could not find one item--the anti-vibration gasket/padding/liner/tape that goes between the tank strap and the tank.

I read that some people simply skip it and some make replacement strips out of either cardboard or tar paper.

I don't think that my tank has ever been out of my truck, so I think that I have the original anti-vibration material. When I took a close look at it, it appeared to be same window setting tape that I have used to set door window glass into metal frames...the stuff that you coat with oil so that it can expand and seat the glass.

I ordered a roll from ebay. This stuff is an exact match to what is in my truck. A 20' roll cost $20 including freight. It is 1 1/2" wide, just like the stuff in my truck. Same rubbery consistency. It is available in differenct thicknesses. I ordered the thickest available...5/64"...to match up with what was in the truck. I used to buy the stuff from a local auto glass repair place, but they no longer carry it.

We can't put ebay links on Stovebolt, but simply search "glass setting tape" on ebay motors and you should find someone who sells it. I got mine from Hot Rods and Custom Stuff in Escondido, CA.

Pictures below. One of the pix shows what the new stuff looks like next to a piece of the old laid out next to one of the straps

Good tip Matt, I've always seen the 30# felt paper used but
your 100% correct, it's really to thin.
Thanks

setting tape was available that wide.

Another option is Model A frame welting. Why? It works well and it's made here in the USA! thumbs_up

I hade some left over from my ole Hot Rod '31 Tudor, that's how I thought to use it.

Heavy grade of treated welt that sits on the frame. Treated so it will not rot. One roll is enough for a car. Welt is 1-1/2" wide, 1/16" thick, 20 ft. long. U.S.A.

Snyders P/N A-3407-X, 20' Roll, $17
