Getting ready to replace the window felt and door weatherstripping on '59 truck. Looking down inside the left door/window recess I see some rust from water getting in there. Is it critical to remove the rust and how difficult is it to do or don't worry about it? It appears to be surface rust. New guy trying to figure the best way to go.

The maintenance manual cover most of the access and a small mirror or view scope make inspecting the lower half easier.
If it really is solid then count your blessings and make sure the drain/weep slots on the bottom are open.

Personally I hosed them out with a pressure washer.
Ospho (Phosphoric Acid) as a way to deal with the rust.
Reapplied then washed the Ospho out
Dry completely
Rolled 2 coats epoxy primer
Shot the seams with Eastwood Anti Rust (A waxy self healing sealer not a rust converter)

it's easy with the windows removed and if you're not Popeye

I use this inside doors:

Wire brush best you can, blow out dust. Cover most openings, glove on hands, hold the tube inside and move by hand. Converts, seals rust and applies anti-rust paint all in one.
