Hey Fellas

Id buy ya each a steak dinner if i could i am so thankful for this forum and the help u can find here

This weekend i hauled home this KD series truck

I entered the vin code in the Stovebolt vin decoder and it says shes a 3/4 t with a 123.5 wheelbase

Picture

However i measured her wheelbase and i got 112. Still fuzzy on that. Im thinking i got a longbox bed.

Meanwhile i tried web browsing for more info on KD and found willian Schicklings 1940 web page

http://home.roadrunner.com/~schickling/1940Chevy/40page.html

Still trying to put things together.

The funny story behind this truck is i found fenders from a guy building a drag truck first. Which included a running 216. I searched forba cab to go with the fenders and got thevabove. I think i might be able to put both together and have sonething decent.

Thanks again for allowing me in the room
Dean

What is the length of the box/bed?

As you stated, KD indicates 3/4 ton 123.75" wheel base, and the 1/2 ton has a 113.5" wheel base.

Unfortunately, bed measurements are missing from the 1940 Specifications Manual; however, there are different-sized bed-side illustrations shown. They might help you ID the bed.

Pulled 216 with 5 bent push rods and rotted carb for replacement 216 with stock tranny

Any suggestions on a great source of info on these stock trannys? Youtube searches comebup short. Looking for a lowdown.. operations mechanics etc

The Driveline forum on this site is probably the best resource for info on your tranny.

Good luck Dino. They are fun trucks to work on. I learned to drive on the '40 WB 1-1/2 Ton that I still own. My grandfather bought it new in 1940 and it is one of my prized possessions!

Did you measure the wheelbase from center to center? The box has 2 stake pockets and looks like a longbed, so I'm confused how it can be the short wheelbase. Unless the wheels are way forward in the rear fenders. headscratch

Hopefully you figure it out.
