I am restoring a 1950 GMC 1/2 ton long bed, and I am at the point of bolting up the rear axle, and the installing the transmission, torque tube and universal joints.
My question is about the shims for the rear universal joint. I bought 2 gasket kits a few months back (thinking they were all I needed), and I just got to the point of opening them up to test fit everything. The two gasket kits I bought were Fel-Pro TS-5099 (Transmission Set), and Fel-Pro ES-72843 (Universal Ball Joint Set). The shims included in both kits fit the front universal joint, but there are no shims in either kit that will fit the bolt pattern of the rear universal joint ball housing. I am missing something, or is there a kit that is specific to GMC for the rear universal joint? On the 72843 kit, the box only says Chevy, but on the 5099 kit it says Chevy and GMC. I need to find the correct shims for the rear universal joint for my GMC.
If anyone has a kit number that contains these shims, I would certainly appreciate it. I can also email a photo of the ball collar housing to show what I am referring to if this sounds confusing.
