This is the situation....I have a chevy 250 in a 54 chevy 1/2 ton with a 2004r tranny. I need to find a floor shifter that will work with that tranny. Does anyone know of a donor vehicle that I can borrow one from. I know I could spend 250.00 for on of those lokar or genie floor shifters but, the funds are not available for the purchase yet. My sister is getting married and I want to arrive in true classic american style-screw the limo....Any help will help.

#10153 09/12/2002 5:01 AM | Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 1,897 Member | | Member Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 1,897 | I think you should be able to check with a wrecking-yard and they will be able to tell you which vehicles came with that tranny and a floor/console shifter.Some yards will even give you a better price if you pull it.(Some do not allow people inside the yard itself)

It was used in mostly BOP cars with v6 engines. Most had a BOP bellhousing, but some had a universal that would fit either the SBC bellhousing or the BOP. This tranny was most famously used in the mid-80s Buick Grand Nationals and T-types, both of which had the screaming 3.8 turbo V6. Check to see if the GNs or T-types had floor shifters. Most aftermarket shifters won't work with an automatic with 4 forward gears.
Let me know what you find, as I'm gonna do a similar deal with a 2004R behind a Poncho 400 in a LeMans.

Monte Carlos with buckets/console. Chip-does your LeMans have a "horseshoe" type shifter like similar year Malibu? If so, check for late eighties/early nineties Pontiac Bonneville. I'm pretty sure those cars had a horseshoe type auto overdrive shifter. Hope this helps. Wannabe
