I have the Canadian 216 version of that motor. That motor is shown in photo 9 in Dave's writeup here. I've often wondered why the heads would not interchange. I know the 50-52 heads have 2 less head bolts, but it appears all the other bolts would align. If you put a newer head on the 50-52 block those 2 bolts would not really hurt anything if not used?? Though I'm not accounting for oiling on this, there may be differences in how the oil is carried to the rocker arms.

The internal lubrication (including supply of oil to the rocker arms) was the same for 1941-52 216/235 engines.
The 50-53 216 heads are the same as the 41-49 216/235 heads.
The 50-52 235 heads are listed as being different from the 216 heads, presumably due to the side-cover holes on the 216?
