The '53 3100 that I'm restoring came with wide chrome ralley wheels. They're sharp looking but I'm trying to restore the truck to an original look.

I'm having trouble finding original, 6 lug wheels (although I haven't completely exhausted all of the possibilities on the swap meet page, yet). All I can find are 15" 6 lug wheels or 5 lug 16" wheels.

I'm considering converting from 6 lugs to 5 lugs. I figure that this won't effect the original "look" of the truck.

Has anyone had any experience doing this? I expect that I'm going to have to replace the front and rear brake drums and the rear spindles. I don't think that the drums will be too much of a problem but is there a spindle that I can put in place of the originals without making any other modifications?

You don't explain what you hope to accomplish by converting to 5-lug. You should sort that out before buying wheels.

I converted my '55 1st to 5-lugs. I wanted to change the ratio in the rear and put disk brakes on the front. I had an axle the correct width and ratio, so I used it. Then I went 5-lug when I put the disks on so they would match the rear.

I never looked for 16-inch wheels with the 5-lug pattern, but you'd need those with the proper hub cap tabs if you want to retain the original look. I've no idea where you'd find those...
