I am running the hooker comps designed for these trucks. The primaries are only 1-5/8" though with a 2-1/2" collector. Does anyone out there know if a header for an early camero or nova will work? Or maybe a belair? I don't want to spend $1000+ on lemons or kooks. Any info is greatly appreciated.

I'm looking at headers for a 65 c10. I know there are headers designed for these trucks, but I'm wondering if another vehicle design will also work. Like a 70's pickup or an early 60's car. Thanks in advance

Early 60's cars use the Ram Horn manifold, so they dump in the center. Where do your manifolds need to dump?

I have a blown small block. Manifolds won't do. I am running the hooker comps presently. They're too small in the primaries and collector so I am looking at a swap to different vehicle style. I really don't want to spend $1200+ on custom headers if a better set from a car will fit.

Might look at a set for a Chevelle and see if they are long enough. You could also look into some race only headers but I think they are going to be expensive.

I've researched all the header post I can on the web. Thanks for the input guys. I'm off to a buddies race shop to test fit some car headers. I'll post my findings.

I ran a set of home built custom headers on a 440 Dodge pull truck. We ran equal-length primary tubes that held one cylinder's volume each, into a 6" diameter collector. The primary tubes were 8 feet long, 1 3/4" in diameter, and exited under the cab where the inner fenders used to be. The tubes from cylinders 3,5,and 7 extended into the collector so each one was the same length as #1. We had massive low end torque with that setup. Unless the tubes are all the same length, there's no reason to run headers.

Yeah I'm looking into hedman step tubed headers. From 1-3/4" to 1-7/8" to a 3" or 3-1/2" collectors. Equal length primaries. I've done the research on my heads, cam and valve sizes. With my flow I came to 1-3/4" primary size. With the blower I'm at 123-125% volumetric efficiency. The ones they list for these trucks are the same as the hooker comps I am using now. Which led me to post this thread about car headers that are compatible. My motor is far from stock. My current headers are 1-5/8" tubes to a 2.5" collector. Pretty lame to go from 2.5" collector to 3" exhaust. My exhaust is dual 3" with an H pipe right after the trans crossmember. The exhaust dumps before the rear axle after single chamber flow (noise) master mufflers.

Are you running the stock rear mount engine support?

Auto or manual trans?

All I was asking was where it needs to dump, not suggesting to run manifolds, sorry. Do the headers dump at the rear or mid of the engine now?

Using the stock rear engine mounts I doubt you will find any big tube, large collector, off the shelf, passenger car headers that will work.

Have you considered fenderwell headers? These are 1-3/4" tube x 3" collectors and have some dimensions listed... http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Dougs-Headers-D355-R-1955-57-S-B-Chevy-Fenderwell-Headers-Plain,25015.html

At the rear. They're full length headers. Had em 16 years. I'll probably just keep them if I can't find a nice swap set. And I wasn't trying to be a donkey hole in my reply. I'm not one to get angry over a suggestion or an Internet forum.

I have a 350 V8 replacing the 283, and I'm using Speedways Tru-Ram cast iron headers. What are you running that needs bigger tubes?

A blown small block. I reposted in the Hipo Shop. It tells more of my set up there.

It's in the thread: header swap
Couldn't get any info in this forum
