Does the 1/2 ton pickup use clutch and brake pedal return springs in addition to the T.O. fork return spring? I see them advertised and can find nowhere to attatch them. The listed springs are 3.25" long and quite stiff. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Scott

My 46 clutch fork has an eye at the tip where a return spring attaches. Will need to check it for length and see where it attaches forward. I do know the trucks have this unique clutch fork, if you have the wrong one it won't work. Will get back to you on the brake spring.

I took a look under my truck and only one I found was hooked to the clutch fork. Have a couple pics I can send you, let me know.

The pictures I have seen show it going from the clutch T.O. fork to the splash pan, what confused me is the catalogs sell clutch and brake PEDAL return springs, in addition to the T.O. spring but I can't see where they would go. Scott

I have a 41 1/2 ton bellhousing on my 37 and there is a bracket that bolts to the bellhousing where the clutch and brake pedal springs attach to.

I will take some pics tomorrow after work,I think all 37 to 46s are supposed to have that bracket since the original 37 bellhousing was threaded for the bolts for that bracket. A easy part to loose when taken apart.

Thanks, that will be appreciated.
This is one of the mysteries I've wondered about. The bell housing on my '46 has two threaded holes on the front drivers side, that don't have any obvious purpose. I thought maybe they were for the starter for a right hand drive application, but they are much too small in diameter for the stud and bolt that would be needed.

I have several pictures in my photo bucket of the brake and return springs and how I believe they are to be installed.

Thanks, I've looked at your pictures tons of times, I can't believe I missed that one! What is the rearward part of the spring hooked on? It looks like the clevis has a tab with an eye on it that mine dosen't have. Scott

Looked to check the fitment of a new clutch pedal return spring I recently purchased from one of the vendors. The spring is supposed to be a direct reproduction of the GM 368244 spring listed in my parts manual. The reproduction spring measures 3.25 in length, but the distance from the clutch throw out bearing fork and the spring tab measures 9.25 inches... Something does not seem to add up.

The clevis does have a tab that is held on with the bolt that the spring attaches to which could be easily be made,I am suprised the shop manual does not have a picture of the bracket and related parts. I will be heading to the junkyard that has a few of those trucks saturday so I could grab those parts if any still have them still on them.

GW has some good photos of his solution to the connections problem. I borrowed his ideas and modified it slightly to this.

I had to add an extra nut in front of the clutch pedal connection to keep the pedal in place. I don't think that is the correct way, at least as shown in the shop manual, but it works.

I'd love to see the factory setup. If you find what you think is OEM I would like to see it. I just figured out what I thought would have to exist to function correctly. Funny those parts would go away as they are needed to have it all work correctly.

If there are any brackets left at the junkyard I will bring all of them home with me,its been about 10 years since I grabbed any parts off those trucks so there is a chance someone came along behind me.

The 41-6 GMC bracket could also be used,it is a straight bracket and does not curve like the Chevy bracket. I found one at the junkyard but could not get to it so I could remove it.
