Hey guys! I'm redoing this line again because it keeps leaking at the distribution fitting. Does it need a flare at that end of the line or will the fitting compress to hold everything tight?

I got the current line from Jim Carter and have a new one coming from them.

Thanks!

I think it just uses a compression ring.

Yes, they are just compression fittings.

assuming it is original. Post a picture of what you have, if you don't know.

Thanks Drew and Denny, that's what I thought.

brokenhead - It's the standard copper line that runs from the distribution valve at the oil pump all the way up to the rocker shaft. Mine is for a 216. I was just wondering if it needed a flare or something in addition to the fitting because mine has been leaking since I installed it a couple years ago. I have a new line from JC incase I need it.

I don't meant the line, I mean the fitting in the distribution block. That could have been changed.

Here it is on my new line. This is the end that goes to the oil distributor valve.

that is the end that goes to the rocker arm, just what did you thread it into anyway? What does the other end look like? I have a brand new NOS rocker arm fitting (with a 30 cent price tag on it) The end you have shown would definitely go into the rocker arm end. The distribution valve could have anything in it as it is just an 1/8" pipe connection at the engine.

Yes, the fitting shown should screw into a companion fitting that makes up the other part of the compression fitting. By tightening them together, it causes the fitting shown to compress into the copper line and seal the connection.

jmoore - That's what I thought. Thanks!

brokenhead - It's been a couple years since I replaced the line the first time but I remember using the same fitting at both ends. I'll have to snap some more pics when I get back out to the garage.

yes it could be the same on both ends, as a matter of fact there could conceivably be 3 of them, however the one that goes into the rocker arm has to be of that type. The one is soldered on, and the other 2 go into fittings that thread into holes with pipe thread so any combination would work as long as the mating pieces do.(mate)
