on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: May 2013 Posts: 168 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: May 2013 Posts: 168 | Hello, I have a 1953 3100 with a 235 from a '54.
I am in the middle of a rebuild, and am going through the Gear Shift mechanism mounted on top of the steering column (engine side). It seems pretty simple, but I want to make sure that that I get it back together 100%. As such I am looking for an exploded diagram. Anyone have one?
As well, the rubber dust boot and retention ring on the top side is shot. I have looked for it at the retail outlets that I am aware of, but haven't found one.
Can anyone help me out with this?
Thanks, Steven

This is everything I need. I don't know how I have over looked Jim Carters, especially since I'm a local boy.
You've done a great job of documenting your restore. I wish I had the time, and discipline to do this with mine. I am taking some pics, but have yet to organize them. This'll take some time.
Thanks again, Steven

Is the spring in this photo in the correct position? Spring position Once assymbled like this, what gear would that be in. I am assuming that I will need to make sure that once I assemble the whole thing that I will need to make sure that the box, the trans, and the shift lever, are all in the same position. Any suggestions with this? Steven

start by mating everything loosely and then tightening each connector

When I put it to the wire brush on my bench grinder to clean the crud off, it turned out it looks like an old style flashlight spring that they coated in rubber or something. I can see (if was whole) the dust cover part now, but as a spring it made no sense. Thanks

One has 2 arms of different lengths but the other has 2 arms of the same length. Both have straight arms. I saw in this thread that one arm in a picture has a bend to it. Are they all interchangable? Is one specific to 4 speed vs 3 speed? | | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 | those would be different years or series, and all 3 speed, the 4 speed never used a column shift
