I know what the difference is between the '48 and a'49 GMC grill on a 1/2 t. vehicle. What I would like to know is; can I put a '49-'53 GMC 1/2t. grill in a '48 GMC 1/2t.
thanks, Bill

Bill it's your truck, but in my opinion, changing that grille would be killing the identity of that truck. It's the grille, & special front bumper of the '47, & '48 trucks, that makes them special in my book. I'd love to have a '47, or '48 in my stable for that reason alone. The hood ornament was also different in '47, & '48.

I agree with Spanky. It is the distinctive grill that makes the 48 stand out. I also would like to have one of the earlier ones in my collection.

I didn't realize the bumper was different also. I do agree with you though, the '48 style is different, and that's part of what it's all about.
I bought a '48 Sub, and don't know if it worth fixing yet, or just a parts vehicle.
To be honest, in doing a search online, there are very few examples to be seen in a '48 GMC Suburban.
I guess you never answered my question, but with both your input, and my own thoughts, I'm influenced, and in agreement.
Thank you.

I need to ask, because I don't know, (new kid on the block), what is the difference in the bumpers.
You also stated different hood ornament? You mean the GMC emblem on the front? If so, how is that different?
I really appreciate the info.

1948 GMC Sheet metal schematic look carefully and you will see all of the sheet metal components for 1948 when compared to later trucks.

Billo, the '47, & '48 GMC front bumper has a more car-like styling to it. Has more of a curvature than the '49-'54 bumper. They also use the same hood ornament as the '46, & '47 Oldsmobile car. GMONIZ has a link above to examples.
